Training Style & Focus
Alana’s training philosophy comes directly from her figure skating background. As a competitive skater, she fell multiple times every single day while learning difficult jumps. Some jumps required hundreds of attempts before she landed them once. Those bruises were physical evidence of the failures it took to reach success. That experience taught her the most important lesson she brings to coaching: no matter how many times you fall or fail, getting back up and continuing is what matters most.
She believes movement is non-negotiable because it’s ingrained in activities of daily living you’ll perform for the rest of your life. Why do we squat so much? So you can continue getting up from a chair or the toilet without assistance.
Training is injury prevention for your future self. Studies show longevity is correlated with quad strength. The gym is where you train for life, and Alana makes sure clients understand the “why” behind every movement.
Her default setting is high-energy, but she adapts to whatever energy a client brings that day. She strategically builds intensity, provides meticulous technical feedback, celebrates small victories (even as simple as remembering to breathe), and knows when to scrap her plan to meet a client’s needs. As clients often tell her, she’s excellent at pushing them without letting them slack, even on low-energy days.
Specialties: Beginners, Pre/Postnatal Training & Creative Programming
Working with Beginners
Alana specializes in making fitness approachable for people who feel intimidated by the gym or have never enjoyed exercise before. She starts with small, manageable goals (adding 200 steps a day, holding a plank for 5 more seconds) and builds from there. For clients with no exposure to fitness, she educates them on why movement matters, then helps them experience wins that build confidence.
Pre/Postnatal Training
Her pre/postnatal training is rooted in compassion and science. A typical session starts with nervous system regulation (intentional breathing, feeling supported, getting present in your body) before moving into mobility, core and pelvic floor activation, and strength work that supports real-life movement. Everything is tailored to trimester, energy level, sleep, and what the body is asking for that day.
As Alana describes her approach: “I don’t treat clients like a fragile flower or a superhero; they’re a whole human going through a massive change. Progress over punishment. Strength over snapping back. Connection over comparison.”
Creative Programming
Alana brings creativity and imagination to programming. She’s turned step-ups into “destination intervals” for a client building stair confidence, created “grocery carries” with uneven weights to mimic real-life loads, and once told a client doing a brutal sled push to imagine she was Beyoncé leaving the stage after “Crazy in Love.” The client laughed, straightened her shoulders like she was on a runway, and pushed that sled farther than she ever had. When your nervous system is lit up with joy, humor, or imagination, you access more strength and confidence.
What to Expect in a Session
Alana’s sessions are high-energy, technically precise, and genuinely fun. She has an MFA in performance, which she describes as “an MFA in empathy and human connection.” She can read people, switch between technical coaching mode and human connection mode, and use humor to alleviate intimidation. Training isn’t a joke, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun between sets.
Expect detailed feedback on form, positive reinforcement for improvements (technique, load increases, or even just better breathing), and a space where you can express what’s on your mind. Sessions end with a fist bump, a ritual that’s become Alana’s physical cue for a job well done.
What makes Alana different is her ability to push you hard while keeping you engaged. She doesn’t remove difficulty; she transforms the experience. If you’re laughing while you’re working, that’s her kind of session.
Client Highlights
One of Alana’s most meaningful transformations involved a client who came in with no desire to train and tried to negotiate her way out of exercises every session. After two years of consistent work, the client went from holding a plank for only 20 seconds to over a minute. She struggled with squat, deadlift, and lunge form for months before gradually achieving textbook-perfect technique, which allowed them to progressively overload her movements. Most importantly, she stopped negotiating and began trusting the process. As Alana puts it: “She went from someone with no desire to train to someone who looked forward to it. That, to me, is success.”
Clients consistently appreciate Alana’s ability to push them even on days they don’t feel like showing up, her adaptability to their needs without letting them slack, and her gift for making hard work feel achievable.
One thing clients might not know: Alana is a stand-up comedian. Comedy is one of the most difficult art forms, requiring self-awareness, humility, and grit. Like the gym, it’s about getting your reps in over and over, trusting the process, and knowing mishaps are part of the journey. Her comedy background shows up in her training through her timing, her ability to read a room, and her instinct for when to add levity to ease tension.
