Strength and Conditioning Classes on the Upper West Side
Strength. Power. Endurance.
Expert-led, high-energy workouts designed to push your limits.
What Is a Strength and Conditioning Class, Exactly?
A strength and conditioning class combines resistance training for strength with cardio-intensity work for conditioning, in one coached session. At Momentum, that means small-group classes built around kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, bodyweight movements, and high-intensity circuits, programmed with purpose and coached rep by rep. Classes are capped at 8 to 10 people, so your instructor has eyes on your form for every rep.
That last part is the difference. A strength and conditioning class here is not a follow-along workout where you copy the front of the room and hope your form holds. Instructors teach, correct, and progress you. Several of them are RKC-certified kettlebell instructors, which matters because Momentum is the gym where New York's kettlebell trainers come to earn that certification. When you take a kettlebell class here, you are learning the lifts in the building where the credential itself is taught.
Coached Classes, Not Choreographed Workouts
Every class is structured and progressive, designed so you see real improvement in strength, endurance, and movement quality rather than just accumulating sweat. The training methods vary across the week:
Kettlebells
Classes that build from the fundamental lifts up.
High-intensity circuits
Dumbbells and bodyweight in formats that change every session.
Calisthenics
Bodyweight skill work on bars and rings.
Lower-body strength
Glute- and lower-body-focused strength sessions.
Whether you are new to lifting or an experienced athlete, instructors scale the intensity to your level, and nothing on the schedule requires prior experience. The payoff compounds: better cardiovascular health and calorie burn from the metabolic conditioning work, and lower injury risk from training movement quality alongside strength.
New to kettlebells specifically? Kettlebell classes on the Upper West Side usually assume experience. Ours include a beginner-focused kettlebell fundamentals class where the core lifts are taught from the ground up. We teach the on-ramp.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most about class format, experience levels, and cost.
What does a strength and conditioning class look like at Momentum?
A typical session runs a coached warm-up, a strength block where the instructor teaches and corrects the main lifts, and a conditioning block that raises your heart rate with circuits or intervals. You will finish knowing what you trained and why.
What is the difference between strength and conditioning classes and personal training?
Classes give you expert coaching in a small group at a lower per-session cost, following the class's program. Personal training is one-on-one, built entirely around your goals, schedule, and movement history. Many clients do both: personal training for their individual plan, classes for volume and variety.
Is strength and conditioning the same as weight training?
Weight training is one ingredient. Strength and conditioning combines functional strength training with conditioning work, mobility, and movement quality, so you build strength you can actually use, not just numbers on a bar.
Are the classes HIIT?
Some are. The schedule mixes dedicated HIIT-style circuit classes with strength-focused and kettlebell formats. Every class card above lists its format, and all of them scale to your level.
Do I need experience to join a class?
No. Every class on the schedule is multi-level, and instructors provide modifications and progressions on the spot. The 8 to 10 person cap means nobody gets lost in the crowd.
What is a kettlebell class like?
Expect a coached warm-up, focused work on the core kettlebell lifts with your instructor correcting form as you go, and a conditioning finish. Formats run from beginner fundamentals to advanced power work, all capped at 8 to 10 people.
Are kettlebell classes good for beginners?
Yes, if they are taught, and here they are. Our beginner kettlebell fundamentals class exists specifically to teach the core lifts safely from zero. You do not need to already know what a kettlebell swing is.
How big are the classes?
Every class is capped at 8 to 10 people. That is small enough for the instructor to coach your form individually, which is the entire point of taking a coached class.
How much do classes cost? Do I need a membership?
No membership. Group fitness runs on class packs that never expire and can be shared with friends or family, or monthly subscriptions if you take 10 or more classes a month. Packages and pricing are above.
What should I bring?
Just workout clothes and water. All equipment is provided, and there are locker rooms with showers if you are heading somewhere after.
