Personal Trainer · Kettlebell & Corrective Exercise · Boxing & Martial Arts José Araujo
José works with clients of all levels, from beginners learning foundational movements to experienced lifters navigating chronic pain or imbalances. His calm, technical coaching style helps people move better, build strength safely, and gain long-term confidence in their bodies.
With 25 years of martial arts experience and an RKC certification earned directly under the legendary Coach Dan John, José brings discipline, patience, and precision to every session. His experience climbing to Tier 3+ at Equinox sharpened his skills in assessment and program design, allowing him to tailor each plan to what a client truly needs.
Training Style & Focus
José’s approach is deliberately slow and systematic. He focuses on movement quality and positive reinforcement because rushing leads to injury and frustration, not results. Training with Dan John shaped his coaching philosophy: create safe environments, use practical programming, and never compromise on form.
His 25 years in martial arts gave him the discipline and body awareness that define his coaching style: not as intensity, but as patience and precision. At Equinox, he learned to use tools like the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and build professional programming systems.
José blends corrective exercise, kettlebell work, and nutrition coaching into methodical progressions. One signature approach: he records client videos at the start, then compares them after three months. The visual proof of better movement and improved strength becomes a powerful celebration of progress.
Kettlebells, Corrective Exercise & Indian Club Training
José combines kettlebell training with corrective exercise to help clients move pain-free, build real strength, and develop confidence in their bodies. His specialty is taking clients who are stuck, whether from injury, pain, or frustration, and building them up through smart progressions.
His assessment process is strategic: a client who’s 15 pounds overweight with shoulder instability doesn’t start with heavy training. José begins with corrective exercises matched to their capacity. He fixes the shoulder first. Once they’re moving better, he introduces light kettlebells for foundational strength. Then he layers in nutrition and resistance training. Each phase builds on the last.
José also uses Indian Club training, a unique specialty most trainers don’t offer, for shoulder mobility and flexibility, especially after heavy sessions. He learned this method from Coach Fury (Speakeasy of Strength) and applies it for clients with upper body restrictions or recovery needs.
Clients work with José for corrective exercise, kettlebell strength training, chronic pain management, and movement quality improvement. He welcomes anyone who values clear instruction, patient coaching, and personalized programming.
What to Expect in a Session with José
José is calm and technical. He builds trust over time and keeps things slow enough that you understand what you’re doing and why. Sessions are challenging but never chaotic, adapting to what you need while staying aligned with long-term goals.
Expect detailed movement feedback, positive reinforcement, and a coaching style that feels more like a patient mentor than a drill sergeant. José meets you where you are, whether that’s learning your first push-up or deadlifting twice your bodyweight.
What José’s Clients Say
One client came to José unable to do a single push-up or chin-up. After three months, she was doing 10 push-ups and 5 unassisted pull-ups, and deadlifting 185 pounds at 125 pounds bodyweight. She also dialed in her nutrition and learned to manage stress better.
Another client had chronic shoulder issues and frequent knee pain disrupting daily life. After five months with José, the pain decreased significantly, he got stronger, and he felt better in everyday movements, not just the gym.
Clients consistently mention José’s positive reinforcement and detailed movement feedback. Beyond physical results, they gain discipline: patience with the process and the mindset to create a better version of themselves.
