Built on Assessment, Not Assumptions
Every personal training client at Momentum starts with a Functional Movement Screen and a goal conversation, so your program is built on how your body actually moves rather than a template. An InBody 570 body composition scan is included free for training clients, which means progress gets measured in muscle and body composition, not just the bathroom scale. Sessions run in a private training facility where the floor belongs to clients in session, not an open-gym crowd.
The trainer roster is the deepest on the Upper West Side: twenty certified personal trainers under one roof, hand-picked over fifteen years, many recruited from Equinox, Reebok, and NYHRC. Their credentials run from NASM and ACSM certifications through corrective exercise, pre and postnatal, Precision Nutrition, and the RKC kettlebell certification, which is actually taught in this building. Owner Marco Guanilo is a Master RKC, one of the people who certifies other kettlebell instructors, and he built Momentum as the kind of gym where that standard is normal.
Pricing is deliberately simple. There are no membership fees and no tiered pricing system. Packages don't expire, facility fees are included in your rate, and you can share sessions with friends or family. Every trainer costs the same, because every trainer here is equally qualified to coach you.

We Match You to the Right Trainer
You do not have to scroll through six hundred trainer listings and guess. Tell us your goal and your history, and we match you with the trainer whose specialties fit: strength, injury recovery, pre or postnatal, kettlebells, boxing, mobility, or training after 50. The match starts with a complimentary session, a real training session with an assessment and a guided workout, not a sales tour. If the fit is not right, we adjust. That is the advantage of a deep bench.
Here is how it works: fill out the complimentary session form, we pair you with the best trainer for your needs, and you start training. Three steps, no commitment, no cost for the first session.
Ways to Train: One-on-One, Semi-Private, or In-Home
Personal training at Momentum comes in three forms, and the right one depends on how you like to train.
One-on-one private training
The classic format: you and your trainer, a program built entirely around you.
Semi-private training
Split a session with a partner, a friend, spouse, or training buddy: coached training at a lower per-person cost while pushing each other.
In-home training
Your trainer comes to you, for days or seasons when getting to Columbus Avenue does not fit your life.
All three run on the same simple package model: no membership fees, packages never expire, and sessions are shareable. Not sure which fits? That is part of the matching conversation, and the complimentary first session works for any of them.
Is Momentum Fitness Right for You?
We work with a diverse range of clients, each with unique goals, challenges, and backgrounds. Whether you're new to training, recovering from an injury, or looking to take your performance to the next level, we'll help you get there with a customized plan tailored to you.
"I've never worked out before, and I don't know where to start."
If stepping into a gym feels intimidating, you're not alone. Our trainers will walk you through everything step by step, from proper movement technique to building confidence with strength training. You'll never feel lost, and we'll make sure your workouts are safe, effective, and tailored to your level.
"I want to get stronger, but I don't want to get injured."
Strength training isn't just about lifting heavy weights. It's about moving better, feeling stronger, and building resilience. We'll create a plan that improves mobility and strength while reducing injury risk, so you can push yourself safely and make long-term progress.
"I have an old injury, and I'm not sure what's safe for me."
Recovering from past injuries or dealing with chronic pain? Our trainers specialize in corrective exercise and functional movement training to help your workouts support recovery rather than causing setbacks. Through a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) assessment, we identify areas that need extra attention and build a plan that helps you regain strength safely and effectively.
"I need a time-efficient workout that actually gets results."
We work with busy professionals, parents, and people on tight schedules who need high-impact training that delivers results. Every session is structured to maximize efficiency, helping you build strength, improve conditioning, and make progress without wasting time on workouts that don't work.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most about pricing, trainers, and the complimentary first session.
Do I need to be in shape before working with a personal trainer?
No. Personal training is for everyone. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, our trainers design sessions based on your current fitness level and goals.
How do I choose the right personal trainer for me?
You can browse the trainers above to see their backgrounds, specialties, and approaches. If you're not sure who fits best, fill out the complimentary session form and we'll match you with the right trainer for your needs, based on your goals and history.
What happens in the complimentary first session?
It is a real training session, free. You get a movement assessment, a conversation about your goals, and a guided workout with a trainer matched to you. Most gyms charge for an intro class or offer a consultation across a desk. We would rather show you how we train.
How much does personal training cost on the Upper West Side?
Momentum sells personal training as session packages with one simple rate: no membership fee, no facility fee, no premium tiers for senior trainers. Packages never expire and can be shared. The complimentary first session is the best way to see the value before you buy anything. Package options are on our rates page.
What types of personal training do you offer?
Strength and conditioning, kettlebell training, mobility and flexibility, weight loss and body recomposition, boxing and martial arts, pre and postnatal fitness, and functional and corrective exercise. Sessions are available one-on-one, semi-private with a partner, or in-home.
Do I need to commit to a long-term contract?
No. There are no memberships, no contracts, and no admin fees. You purchase single sessions or packages based on what fits your schedule and goals.
Do you offer personal training for specific needs like injuries or pregnancy?
Yes. We have trainers certified in corrective exercise, pre and postnatal fitness, and pain-free performance. Tell us your situation and we'll match you with the right specialist.
How often should I train with a personal trainer?
Two to three sessions per week is the sweet spot for most goals, though your trainer will recommend a frequency based on your starting point, your goals, and what you do outside the gym. Many clients pair training sessions with our group fitness classes for extra volume.
